Every student, no matter their background, where they live, or their individual abilities, deserves an education that prepares them for success in a rapidly changing world. Building a system that puts students first is a priority for the Manitoba government.
Manitoba has one of the highest levels of education spending in Canada, yet our students trail behind their peers. We have the largest number of school divisions and elected trustees, yet standards, access to programming, and funding vary depending on where you live. While we have many examples of schools and school divisions doing great work in our province, we know that there are many ways we can do better.
Better Education Starts Today has been developed in response to the recommendations of the Commission on Kindergarten to Grade 12 Education and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a clear plan of action to build an education system that is classroom-focused, student-centred, parent-friendly and accountable for results.
